Jacaranda Agricultural Show to focus on diverse livestock and emerging farmers

The upcoming Jacaranda Agricultural Show will focus on diverse livestock categories aiming to provide lasting solutions for the emerging farmer segment in South Africa

The exhibition provides a specialised B2B platform to showcase, discuss and create agricultural business opportunities for farmers and the agricultural industry in South Africa. This year, the focus is on diverse livestock categories.

”For the past 75 years, the Pretoria Show and now the Jacaranda Agricultural Show have been an important platform for farmers and the agricultural community, to come together, network and promote the agriculture industry and food security of South Africa,” said Wim du Toit, Tshwabac CEO.

Some of the sectors that will be exhibited include goat/sheep farming, poultry and waterfowl, aquaculture, rabbit farming, equine industry, farming equipment, animal supplements, transport services and agricultural consultancies.

”With rising world population and an imminent danger of food shortage, Africa and more specifically, southern Africa, is well poised to become the global bread basket and a major supplier of food. This will be an opportunity to engage and forge stronger relationships for the benefit of the region and ultimately the world,” added du Toit.

Other areas of focus will also be the emerging farmers and weekend farmers market. South Africa has roughly 2.5mn emerging farmers, who are mostly excluded from the mainstream agricultural economy. They face a number of challenges including the size of their land, access to finance and diverse production modes, which make their survival difficult in the modern agricultural economy.

”It’s crucial for these farmers to attend a showcase such as this to network with the industry and find lasting solutions,” said du Toit.

South Africa’s Tshwane Events Centre will host the Jacaranda Agricultural Show from 23 to 30 August, 2014. The Tshwane Events Centre is a multi-purpose facility, which can accommodate more than 45,000 visitors simultaneously. There are eleven exhibition halls that vary in size and can accommodate a variety of functions from large-scale indoor exhibitions to music concerts and sporting events, said Ricky Da Costa, marketing manager of the venue.

There are conference rooms, meeting areas, wireless Internet access, catering, easy access and secure parking for up to 3,500 vehicles.
