Tanzania will host the first Apimondia Symposium on African bees and beekeeping in Arusha on 11-16 November 2014 under the theme: African bees for a green and golden economy
According to the organisers, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) Agency and APIMONDIA, the symposium will address seven main topics and its sub topics on which unpublished and research-based information will be presented and discussed.
“The Scientific Committees for the ApiAfrica Symposium invite interested beekeepers; researchers and technicians, individuals, organisations and or institutions to submit abstracts that are related to the sub topics of the Symposium," the committee said.
Some of the main topics include current issues being discussed by African beekeepers such as problems of declining colonies and hive occupancy in beekeeping areas, presence and effects of Varroa mites, pests and predators in tropical environment, managing African bees better, experiences and lessons learnt from beekeeping projects in Africa and developing countries, incentive schemes for beekeeping and beekeepers, beekeeping and climate change focusing on effects of climate change on bees and beekeeping.
