The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) have announced a partnership to address Africa’s agricultural issues
AfDB and AGRA said that they will focus on development of the continent’s agriculture, including access to agricultural inputs, fertilisers, finance, credit, storage, extension, and markets.
Agnes Kalibata, president of AGRA, added that both the institutions have agreed to strengthen their cooperation to speed up Africa's agriculture transformation.
The institutes will address these issues by proving improved infrastructure and systems, value addition, market access, institutional capacity and training, public and private investments, he noted.
Aly Abou-Sabaa, V-P of agriculture at AfDB, said, “Agriculture can be a medium towards sustainable transformation of a region. It also helps to eradicate poverty and hunger.”
According to AfDB, it will support a number of public interventions to assist in addressing Africa’s agricultural and food security challenges. The bank is also heavily investing in rural infrastructure and linking farmers to markets, AfDB added.
