AGRA president selected to join global agriculture and nutrition panel

Jane Karuku, president of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), has been selected for a new high-level panel, which aims to make governments and the global community better informed on agriculture and nutrition

The Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition was announced on 8 June by the UK government for the Nutrition for Growth conference, which welcomed leaders from more than 50 countries to discuss ways of improving food security in Africa.

Jane Karuku, president of AGRA said, "I am delighted to have been appointed to the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition, launched by the UK government and supported by the international community.

"With programmes across the continent, AGRA is expertly placed to contribute experience and knowledge to this timely and important initiative," Jane Karuku said.

"The creation of this Panel is a clear indication of the global commitment to tackle hunger and to support agriculture in Africa," she added.

Karuku revealed that more than US$4bn of investment was pledged to tackle malnutrition at the Nutrition for Growth conference held recently in London, UK.
