The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) has provided agricultural testing equipment to Gambian groundnut and sesame stakeholders at a ceremony held at the ministry in Banjul, Gambia
The equipment that was given to the stakeholders included moisture metres and Aflacheck kits created for testing the quality of groundnuts grown at farms across the country, the MOTIE stated.
According to the ministry, the sesame stakeholders also received tarpaulins for the management of sesame at the farm.
The ceremony welcomed staff from the ministry and representatives of both the groundnut and sesame stakeholders.
“The SCEDP targets the agric sector specific support for cashew nuts, groundnuts and sesame with focus on finding new export opportunities, product diversification, improved value addition, quality enhancement and strengthening sector support institutions component A,” said the minister of MOTIE, Abdou Colley.
The equipment supplied to the stakeholders is worth nearly US$40,000 and is part of the ministry’s support geared towards the achievement of quality in a bid to increase exports of groundnuts and sesame, the MOTIE said.
