Growing German interest in Zambian agriculture

German representation at Agritech Expo in Chisamba expected to be almost double this year

The German Pavilion at the Agritech Expo in Chisamba will see representation from 16 German providers of agricultural machinery and livestock equipment, a figure almost double compared to the previous year.

Martin Botzian of DLG International GmbH, organisers of the official German pavilion from the German ministry of agriculture at Agritech Expo said, “We are pleased to be part of the show for the third time. From the beginning of Agritech, two years ago, we have been part of this very well organised show in Zambia.”

According to Botzian, the agricultural sector in Zambia is exciting for German companies that sell agricultural machinery and livestock equipment because the country has a stable policy environment and the government supports the agricultural sector and commercial farming.

Botzian was very confident about the potential of Zambian agriculture. He said that commercial farming in Zambia can generate enough surplus food to facilitate export to its neighbours. Food security can be increased and mass migration out of the country into the city can be curbed by commercialising agricultural land.

‘Made in Germany’ products including animal housing installations, animal identification (ear tags), silos, consultation, planning and building of dairy facilities, dung removal systems, cattle breeding and marketing, crop protection, mixers and pumps, silage bags, slat flooring, poultry equipment, agricultural machinery such as feed mixers, maize choppers, agricultural films and nets as well as milking equipment will be on display at the German Pavilion.

Martin Botzian is to be held at Gart Research Centre, Chisamba, Zambia from 14 - 16 April 2016 and is expected to welcome around 15,000 farming professionals, emerging, small holder and commercial farmers, and agricultural experts.
