The second edition of Cassava World Africa will be held in Accra, Ghana from 1-2 March 2016
The event will highlight Africa’s progress in developing and commercialising cassava-derived products, from high quality cassava flours to ethanol to beers. It will also discuss solutions to Africa’s long-standing issues of integrating out-growers and infrastructure bottlenecks.
The Accra summit will bring together players in the cassava value chain from Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Tanzania and Malawi. These will include plantation owners, cassava processors as well as end users. The summit’s programme will be led by a presentation on ‘Food Security in Africa & Encouraging Public-Private Partnership in Agriculture Sector’, with a special focus on cassava, to be made by Bukar Tijiani, FAO’s assistant director-general and regional representatives for Africa.
Shonga Farms from Nigeria will share the country’s large-scale commercial cassava plantation model while Ghana Industrial Cassava Stakeholders Platform will present a case study on the plantations in Ghana and the challenges of cassava starch processing. Caltech Ventures’ MD, Chris Quarshie, will share insights on the market prospects for high quality cassava flour in Africa, while Export Marketing will provide inputs on enhancing cassava production in Africa and tackling supply chain and processing challenges.
William Oppong-Bio, executive chairman of Amantin Agro Processing, will highlight Africa’s preparedness for cassava chips exports by overcoming supply chain barriers while Chuka Mordi, managing partner at CBO Capital Partners, will use a case study of Union Dicon to talk about cassava starch processing.
Other than these, there will be sessions to discuss other cassava products and uses like ethanol, adhesive for paperboards and animal feeds. There will also be panel discussions on disease management and out-grower schemes.
