Business and sustainable farming opportunities in East African agricultural market will be high on the agenda at the Agribusiness Congress East Africa, which will take place in Tanzania from 28-29 January 2015
Liam Beckett, event director of Agribusiness Congress East Africa, said, “East Africa is increasingly seen as an agribusiness investment destination with more than US$3.4bn being invested in Tanzania alone.
“Other countries that are showing strong growth in this sector are Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Malawi, Liberia, Kenya and Ethiopia. This development requires the agriculture sector to adapt to new technology, be open to innovations and modernise their farming techniques. Fortunately, finance for farmers to purchase new equipment and insurance for this and existing equipment is becoming more readily available to the farming industry as banks and finance houses are re-investing in the business sector.”
The exhibition and conference, which will take place in Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam, will look to promote discussions on agricultural development and innovations in the East African region with around 800 agriculture experts set to speak at the event.
Among the speakers scheduled to appear will be Stephen Muchiri, CEO of Eastern African Farmers Federation, Felix Mosha, chairman of East African Business Council, Geoffrey Kirenga, CEO of SAGCOT, Gerald Masila, executive director of Eastern African Grain Council, Carter Coleman, chairman of Kilombero Plantations and Jacqueline Mkindi, executive director of Tanzania Horticulture Association. Christopher Chiza, minister of agriculture food security and cooperatives of Tanzania, has also been invited to deliver the event's keynote address.
Beckett added,“At Agribusiness Congress East Africa, we once again look forward to bringing together key public and private stakeholders from across the East African agricultural sector and facilitating the discussions on the latest developments and challenges in our sector.”
The event director noted that innovation and technology will be at the forefront of the exhibition where some of the leading suppliers in the industry will display their services and solutions.
More than 40 local and international companies will be showcasing their solutions, including Impo, Monsanto, Lonagro, John Deere, Syngenta, Afrivet, Ari Trading Post and FMD, revealed Beckett.
