Coffee will be the centre of focus in Angola this week as the country is hosting the 55th General Assembly of the Inter-Africa Coffee Organisation until 27 November 2015
Policies surrounding coffee production, processing and trade will be discussed at length at the event, said officials from the National Coffee Institute.
There will be growers, plantation owners, specialists, researchers and technicians from the coffee sector, who will provide their feedback on the industry and review goals completed in the last two years.
National Coffee Institute (INCA) director João Ferreira Neto said that besides the annual ordinary general assembly that focuses on coffee policies on the continent, there will be a meeting of the Africa Network for Coffee Research and the 3rd African Coffee Symposium. The former meeting will review the work accomplished so far in Africa’s coffee sector, while the symposium will shed light on gender issues within the industry.
In addition, the INCA director said incentives to bring in more youth participation in the sector would also be discussed.
According to Neto, by 2030, there will be an increase in coffee consumption of more than two million bags, and this demand can be met by Africa’s leading coffee producers such as Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia with the use of technology.
