Cotton congress to be held in Zimbabwe for first time

Zimbabwe will host the African Cotton Association 10th annual congress on 15 to 17 March, 2012

The congress is being held in Zimbabwe for the first time in the resort town of Victoria Falls. It will enable local and international cotton stakeholders to meet and share experiences.

ACA was formed in Cotonou, Benin in September 2002 to protect the interests of African cotton producers. The association plays an advocacy role in defence of African cotton interests, especially against unjust subsidies and trade barriers in some cotton producing countries.

ACA focuses its attention on the implementation of alliance strategies with other cotton growing countries affected by unfair trade practices and facilitates a forum for members to dialogue and exchange ideas on cotton growing techniques, ginning, logistics and trade issues.

Zimbabwe is one of the major cotton producers in Africa and cotton is one of its major foreign currency earners. Cotton forms the livelihood for an estimated 300,000 smallholder farmers.
