Dangote group, the Nigerian multinational industrial conglomerate, was the leading sponsor of the eighth Gateway Trade Fair 2017 from 17 to 26 May in Abeokuta Ogun state, organised by the Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA)
The fair was aimed at the expansion of agricultural value chain through small and medium enterprises (SME) for Nigeria’s economic development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, President of OGUNCCIMA, Adesola Adebutu said the support given by the Dangote Group went a long way in making the fair a success.
Adebutu pointed out that the theme of the Fair, “Promoting Agricultural Value Chain through SMES for Nigeria Economic Recovery”, was chosen in line with Ogun state’s policy of agricultural industrialisation which is also in consonance with the national policy of repositioning agriculture as the viable alternative to oil.
Ibikunle Amosu, the governor of the Ogun state, praised both OGUNCCIMA and Dangote group for organising the trade fair. He also said that the government’s initiative and support to organise such agri-based trade fair would boost up agricultural economy in the country and build an effective value chain with SMEs to create millions of employment.
Dangote showcased a variety of edible goods and products for the consumers at subsidised prices at the fair. The three companies in the group offer consumer goods at the fair. These are Dangote Sugar Refinery, NASCON Allied Industries Plc (Dangote Salt) and Dangote Flour and Dangote Cement.
The products displayed included Dangote sugar, Dangoote flour, spaghetti and macaroni, Dangote salt, Dang (seasoning), tomato paste etc. The speciality of Dangote sugar was it was displayed in different sizes of granulated sugar packs.
