XIV World Forestry Congress to be held in Durban

South Africa’s department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries is partnering with United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will host the XIV World Forestry Congress in Durban

The World Forestry Congress (WFC) will be held from 7-11 September 2015 at the Albert Luthuli Durban International Convention Centre. The theme for the event will be ‘Forest and People: Investing in a Sustainable Future’. This is the first time it is being held on African soil.

WFC is the largest and most significant gathering of the world’s forestry sector and has been held every six years since 1926. The Congress provides a platform to deliberate critical issues affecting forestry.

Speaking at the WFC information event on the sidelines of FAO’s governing conference meeting in Rome recently, the XIV WFC secretary-general Trevor Abrahams said educating the general public about the importance of forests is a high priority.

Registration for the Congress is now open, and those who wish to attend can visit www.wfc2015.org.za to register.
