PepsiCo, along with the AgMission initiative is seeking to enhance the resilience of farmers during extreme weather conditions by investing in regenerative and climate-smart practices
According to a report by Food Business News, the two organisations have collaborated to issue a request for applications (RFA) to accelerate the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices in corn, wheat, oats, canola, soy and sugar beets in North America, Europe, South Africa and Australia. In addition to this, both organisations will also be awarding up to US$6mn through the RFA, with recipients elligible to receive up to US$1.5mn.
It is important to keep in mind that proposals submitted need to include a comparison between climate-smart and regenerative practice systems and alternative practice systems. Moreover, applicants need not secure matching funds for this project, since the match will be contributed by the founding partners of AgMission, the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research and the World Farmers’ Organisation.
Margaret Henry, senior director of sustainable agriculture strategy and external engagement at PepsiCo mentioned in the report that enabling farmers to carry on with farming activities even during climate change and other environmental issues was one of PepsiCo's most critical ambitions.
