Potatoes from Scotland to Egypt

Thousands of tonnes of seed potatoes take the 3500 mile journey from Aberdeen harbour to Egypt

The largest exporter of protected seed potatoes from the UK, IPM Ltd has delivered a 5,000 tonne consignment to Aberdeen Harbour, ready for the 3,500-mile journey to Egypt.

Ireland-headquartered company, Irish Potato Marketing Ltd (IPM), delivered the cargo to Aberdeen where it was stored in the large modern transit sheds on Clipper Quay before onward shipment to Egypt’s Abu Qir port.

A further 2,400 tonnes are scheduled for delivery and departure to Morocco’s main port, Casablanca, later this month. The harbour has already handled a 4,300 tonne cargo for IPM, which was shipped to Egypt in November.

The welcome new traffic is being handled by logistics specialist Sea-Cargo, appointed by IPM to ensure the safe storage and loading of the cargo
