Zimbabwean government distributes 60 tractors

The Zimbabwean government has announced it has delivered more than 60 tractors to farmers in Mashonaland West and Central provinces under the Zunde Ramambo programme to enhance food security in both regions

The chief secretary in the office of the president and cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda said the project would work towards improving Zimbabwe's agricultural sector.

“We have just launched the Zunde Ramambo tillage programme. We started it in Mashonaland West province in Zambia where we distributed 21 tractors,” Sibanda said.

“We are now in Mashonaland Central province. We have to do something thanks to secretary (Partson) Mbiriri. We had some tractors lying idle, which we reconditioned and distributed. Now we have 40 more to be distributed in Mashonaland Central.”

The tractors were distributed for the jatropha programme.

Addressing heads of ministries and principal directors recently at a retreat workshop in Harare, Sibanda said such farming implements were vital in boosting any country's agriculture sector.
