During a two-day training and empowerment of select poultry farmers, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Earnest Umakhihe announced that Nigeria had continued to lead egg production and stand as the second largest chicken producer in Africa
A report published by The Guardian mentioned that trainees at the event held at the ADP office, Umuahia were urged by the Permanent Secretary to best utilise the knowledge and inputs offered to them by the government. Moreover, each participant at the training was presented with 100 day-old chicks, starter-feeds, medications, water, and feeding troughs.
The host state government, through the state ADP Manager, Israel Amaze expressed his delight and emphasised that further assistance would be provided to trainees who were facing difficulties. Abia ADP Director of Extension Services, Pastor Kenneth Kanu also asked trainees to view themselves as key players in the state’s poultry production.
